# What I Did For a Living, pt1

One of my state's FTTH ISPs recently posted new backup generators that they got installed. When I commented that I had a small part in those my wife quipped, "I don't even know exactly what you did". Mechanical engineering is a large field, but this is my niche.

Rather than starting with what I do, lets work backwards from what you see, the full package. This is a diesel genset. It consists of a diesel engine and generator.

It makes electricity. Electricity for hospitals, stores, ISPs, factories, etc.
